Front axle
« on: November 02, 2014, 06:55:17 am »
I've been scratching my head for a couple of days now with my front wheel. The threads in the fork leg for axle have stripped out but only half way. When I took the wheel off last year a spacer fell out ?? Now my questions.
How many spacers are in the front wheel / axle assembly ?
I have one that sits kinda inside the black housing and another one I front of it.
Also how far should the axle come through the fork legs on the threaded end?
With the two spacers mine is only coming half way through. Which is also causing the pinch bolt for axle to be hammered through cause it's fouling the axle ?
I tried to google some diagrams and images but no luck.
Any help would be much appreciated

Here should be an exploded parts diagram for an '82 FT Ascot front wheel: http://www.bikebandit.com/oem-parts/1982-honda-ascot-500-ft500c/o/m151788#sch411107  Bike Bandit has a good collection of parts diagrams.

If I recall correctly, you need to completely remove the axle pinch bolt to allow the axle to be removed/replaced.

Good luck
J.

Hi j
That is the same diagram I came across but couldn't zoom on it. That link helps a lot . This 'extra spacer' must have been put in by mistake by the PO. ?  Baffles me. It's about ten mm wide and slides perfect over the axle.
Yes I know the pinch bolt needs completely removed. But with the extra spacer I had it was causing the pinch bolt to foul on the cut out on the axle , if you get me.
Hopefully it's just a case of taking out this spacer and throwing it.
Thanks j
Your a real help.
