CBR600 Forks on FT500 Oil
« on: February 24, 2015, 12:03:13 pm »
I got a front end swap for my bike. I'm in the process of rebuilding the CBR600 Forks, and wondering whether I should go for the CBR600 specifications for fork oil type and volume, or if there are better figures that have been found from others testing and configuration.

I would follow the specs for the CBR600 front end.

The easiest front end to swap, is the first generation Honda CBR600 Hurricane. I believe the years are from 1987-90. These forks are the same diameter & spacing as the FT500 triple clamps. You can just loosen the triple clamps, slide the FT forks out & slide the CBR forks into place. Ultimately you want to find a donor that can provide the complete front end, brakes, 17" wheel, etc, plus the rear 17" wheel, brakes, spacers, etc. The CBR600 Hurricane rear wheel will slide into place in the FT swing arm. This will provide lightweight 17" wheels on each end. Dual disk brakes up front if you choose to keep both & better forks. It will lower the bike about 1.5-2"
