Balancer chain tension adjustment
« on: May 13, 2016, 03:54:01 pm »
Hi,

I heard a clonking sound from the engine and decided it probably was a loose tension of the balancer chain that caused it. I removed the clutch cover and loosened the lock screw of the tensioner. But the problem is that the spring which is supposed to tension the chain in the correct amount is completely loose. Is that a sign of worn chain or something else? I can manually tension the chain and leave som slack.

Someone else have had this problem before?

I cannot remember exactly how to do it but you have to undo the nut and move the arm around another spline, then the spring will tension it. Maybe somebody else can explain this better.

Yes, I found the workshop manual and as you said, you have to remove the circlip holding the balancer weight, then the tensioner plate and rotate it one step clockwise.
