jay:
Hi, first time to post for me, my question is I have a 84 VT500FT I am doing a mild resto mod on, The clutch activated switch, what purpose does it serve and can it be eliminated. I want to put a new clutch handle and perch on the bike.

All comments welcome! (I have also brought back to life an '81 XS650 and '82 Virago to nice café machines)

Thanks!

Dynachuck:
It keeps the starter from working until you pull the clutch in. A safety feature so if you hit the starter button while in gear, the bike won't take off and fall over. Yes they can be eliminated. I eliminated mine on my WR450 so I could run arc levers. I don't remember if I shorted the two wires together or just unhooked them. Just be consistent about pulling the clutch in when starting the bike.

Ok, many thanks, I was figuring that might be the reason it was there, but I prefer to find out more before I start making changes to the electrical system. My virago "had" the same feature.
Thanks again Dynachuck!
