Title: Strange noise when coasting...
Post by: Par7ival on October 14, 2016, 01:00:59 am
My '82 recently developed a strange noise when coasting to a stop. It only seems to occur when coasting at low speeds, it occurs regardless of gear, and even with the motor off. I lubed and checked the tension of the chain, this had no effect. It doesn't seem to be the brakes either as applying them makes no difference.

Any ideas as to what else it could be?

Hard to say without hearing it in person. How many miles are on the bike?

Does the chain look like it is riding on the sprocket properly?

Are the brake pads dragging on the disk?

Wheel bearings?

Good luck

The bike has about 20k on it. The chain and sprocket both are newer and appear to be riding properly.

The brakes aren't dragging as far as I can tell.

How would I check wheel bearings?

You might try placing the bike on the center stand & then spin each wheel while listening for the noise.
