Title: VT500 FT how do you remove the speedometer gauge from the instrument cluster?
Post by: JimGillespie on March 22, 2017, 01:16:58 pm
I have a 1984 Honda Ascot VT500  FT which has a really noisy speedometer and the needle bounces all around.
I am sure it is the gauge and not the cable so I would like to remove the gauge to either clean/lubricate the gears it or send it off for refurbishing.  I  have the headlight undone , and the instrument panel cover off amd the two nuts on the back of the speedo off.
Any suggestions as to how to proceed?

Thanks,
Jim

I've never attempted to remove the speedo from the housing.

Does the service manual provide any information?

Have you lubricated the speedo cable?

Here is another possible source of information that you could try: https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/ascotvt500enthusiasts/info

Good luck
