The front brake lever on my 84 ascot was getting a bit 'soft'. I did a full bleed and a small amount of air came out. The 'pull' has firmed right up but the lever still travels a full two inches before it gets firm (measured from the handlebar to just where the ball at the end of the lever starts). Anyone else have a similar experience?

Use a zip-tye to hold the lever back by about an inch & leave it overnight.
Check it the next day & see if it improves.

I've tried the lever trick on multiple bikes over the years (including the ascot) and never had it improve anything. I think it's a bit of an urban myth.

It's worked for me before, but only to get the last little bit of air out.
Get one of the vacuum type brake bleeders. That "pulls" the fluid out/down towards the caliper vs. "pushing" the air down, so to speak. Once I learned to use mine properly, it makes brake bleeding easier and a one man job.
