LED Turn signals/flasher

Hi there,
I got some LED turn signals because they were cheaper than buying a new OEM turn signal. My question is should I spend the money and get this flasher:  http://www.chromeworld.com/1983-honda-vt500ft-ascot-parts/lights-and-electrical/show-chrome-led-dig-flashr-relay-plugnplay-13-306

or would it be too hard to just get a standard LED compatible flasher and rig it myself?

I used an LED tail light & turn signal assembly on the back of my FT Ascot, with small incandescents up front. My original flasher would no longer work. I replaced it with this unit & it works just fine now. http://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/motorcycle-accessories/lf1-s-pin-universal-motorcycle-electronic-flasher/193/841/ If I recall correctly, I had to change the connectors on the ends of the wires to a smaller size & then it plugged right in & looks stock. When I first plugged it in, I matched the color coding on the wires & it did not work. I swapped the leads & then it worked fine.

You can also try to use a resistor in each line if you know what size that you need. I have seen some inline resistor kits for LED lights, but I don't know anything more about them.

In my experience led's always need the proper flasher relay, or they'll not work. I'd not use led's if you paid me, I prefer the older technology that has stood the test of time.

Using LEDs in the signal lamps can yield a reasonable power savings but on an Ascot, that doesn't do one any good as the power is generated weather your use it or not (best to use any 'freed up' power somewhere else, i.e heated vest or grips or additional lighting or  ?).

However, using LED's on some other Honda models that utilize excited field alternators can yield big benefits (in addition to probably never having to replace the 'lamps' again).

So the guys over at the Yahoo group led me toward the Tridon EP35. Works like a charm and I picked it up at Advance Auto. Had to cut off the connector and rig it a bit but it wasn't difficult at all.
