Head gasket removal
« on: May 24, 2017, 10:30:36 pm »
Hi,

Is there a way to change both head gaskets without removing the engine of the frame?

Thanks,

Jeremie.

Probably not, but I'm not 100% certain.

Do you have a Honda service manual? That will provide the answer.

I have de Clymer manual and they said that for removing the cylinder head, we need to remove the whole engine, which seem a lot of trouble for a simple maintenance.

You should obtain a real Honda service manual. It will provide much more accurate info over the Clymer version.

I doubt there is enough clearance to pull the head due to the frame backbone.

Pulling the engine isn't that tough. Just go slowly. Take pictures & label all wires, hoses, etc.

I managed to change the without removing the engine. You need just need to remove the carburator, the coils and a few hoses and with that you can lift the head cover just enough to remove the gasket. You cant remove the head cover, but you can can lift it just enough for having the space to remove and install the gaskets.

Are you talking about the cylinder head, or the valve cover?

I was mistaken in my terminology. I wanted to say that I lift the valve cover (and not the cylinder head) of like 1-2 inch, witch gave me just enough space to put new gaskets without removing the engine form the frame.
