Has anyone tried to visit the Facebook Ascot site lately?

I have been unable to view the site (won't load up) for about a week now. Is this happening to anyone else?

It's probably my antiquated computers. I'm running XP and I'm having more & more problems using the I'net. I don't appreciate having to go out & buy a new computer all of a sudden. I'm thinking of maybe picking up a Mac this time, but I know less than nothing about them. I'm just sick of having to download updates all the time & worrying about viruses, etc.

Anybody out there know much about computers that could offer some advise?

Well .. it can certainly be a hot topic ... and I'm no evangelist... lol  but from personal experience my vote is Mac.

I have had one or more since the eighties and have never been let down.
 
As a matter of fact even my Mac Plus (circa 1986) still boots up. That's about all the useful tricks it has left though.

A Mac probably won't feel too alien to ya. The two systems (Win Mac) have "borrowed" from each other for so long that they have distilled into very similar beasts on the surface anyway. I would hit up my nearest Bestbuy or similar and poke around on one for a while ... then imagine it just works ... every single time you turn it on. (no offense meant by the new guy ... lol)

Check out the web site first to minimize sticker shock. But currently, anywhere from $600 for a Mini to 4k for a PowerMac.

If I was prepared to spend about $1k +/- could I purchase a nice lap-top & which model would I be looking at? Should I plan to spend more?

Do lap-tops still have CD drives any longer? I'd like to watch a movie on it if I had to fly somewhere. Other than that, I have no clue what other features that I need or want. I don't play any games. Just I'net surfing & watching a flick, etc.

What is the main difference(s) between the MacBook Pro & the MacBook Air?

1. That's Apple's fancy name for it's displays that have a pixel density high enough that the human eye is unable to discern individual pixels at a typical viewing distance.

2. Size (thickness) and Solid State drive (in the MB Air) ... oh I don't think the Air has an Optical drive (CD/DVD) while the MacBook does

Mac all the way J6. I've got a rehabbed one that's 9 years old & it's never given me trouble and it's a lot easier to use than a PC. Viruses? Pop ups? never.
 I was in the Apple store last week pricing a lapper & they're lowest price was 1200. I'm probably going to get one, seeing how I'm doing more surfing than riding these days......

Well there is a new Mac in the house. I picked up a Mac Book Pro. The second model up from the base model. I had to pick up a seperate disk driver/burner for CD's, DVD's, etc, because the lap-top doesn't have a disk drive.

I'm using my old PC right now, because I haven't become accustomed to the new model yet. I'm getting there though. I used the new computer last night to catch up on my Facebook news feeds & it didn't lock up once. Unheard of in this household. My old computer can't do that.

All in all, it's an incredible little machine. I'm very impressed & I'm sure that I will enjoy it once I get used to it.
