starter removal
« on: December 09, 2017, 02:14:08 pm »
Haven't found any info on starter removal, '83 ft5oo.
Mine is a bit stuck - seems to pivot around lower right bolt hole.
I'm surmising there is a pin where that bolt goes through, between starter and housing that might be corroded and stuck?
Starter wiggles and is free except at lower right bolt hole.
Anyone else run into this or any thoughts/advice?   Thanks,  Al

Don't think there is any pins there, but a stuck O ring on the housing end could be your problem. Try gently levering the starter sideways away from the housing.

Turns out there's a "hollow pin" (ferrule?) that the lower right bolt bolt goes through.  it's part of the starter housing and plugs into the sidecover.  I put some PB Blaster in the bolt hole and worked at it quite a bit, and finally gave up.  So it sat for a week or two.  When i was taking the side cover off, it came loose.   Patience is a virtue!  Guess the PB Blaster took a while to free it up......  Al
