Luggage rack

Hi - has anyone modified a luggage rack from other bikes to work on FT500?  Stock racks are rare and too expensive for my project.  Rather than start from scratch building one would like to find one that can be modified to fit.  Any ideas appreciated.  Thanks,  Al

Don't know of any standard ones that can be used, but there are several 'universal' type ones available on evil bay that could be made to fit. Try these.

Being too cheap to buy new rack i've been scouring ebay for a rack that might work. 
Luckily found an AMCO Mark 4 Motorcycle Luggage Rack Mount Kit #25 on ebay that was made for the Ascot so that made adapting any rack a lot easier.  Found a KG universal type rack that had been on an '87 Honda CX500 and it looked like it might adapt.  It does, though at a bit of an odd angle.  Consulted friends about trying to bend it into flatter angle but was advised to declare victory.  Function over form!  pdf shows installation.
